An absolutely exceptional facility. My father was transferred there from Kingsbury, and it was like night and day. The staff are incredibly helpful, very willing to talk and explain what is happening and work to an incredibly high standard. Every single aspect of care was 100%. The only breakdown was the communication problems at discharge, but they called us back and rectified it within a matter of days. Great place and highly recommended.
Good day Fair Cape. Just want to take a moment and really express my gratitude to the to Fair Cape for caring for my mom over December into January. You guys were amazing. Then, to Laura Jacobs and Karen when Laura is away, thank you so much for the way in which you ladies are caring for my mom. I suppose there are few things more appreciative for children of elderly patients. I cannot thank you enough. And thanks for putting up with me Laura 😂 - you are absolutely amazing! Thank all! Shaun Hartley
Just wow!!!!! Clean, comfort and dignity. Three words not often associated with medical facilities. The staff make all the difference and are the true assets here. The fact that the patients can have their pets come visit is just marvellous!
For a facility that came highly recommended and boasts being the best, what a disappointment. The audacity of having your patient lying in extreme pain, because instead of his actual perscribed pain medication, you keep him on Panado's for 24 hours for surgery pain. A medication that barely stops a severe headache in a healthy adult, but sure, let's administer it to a 72 year old after being cut into. A patient spending a whole night in sever pain is a serious lack of competency on your part. And then in the same breath of asking "How are you" and replying "shame" when the patient barely answers "Not the best". And continuing with "I know you dont feel like dealing with anything, but here's a discharge survey to fill out on your experience at the facility." My father may be kind and not willing to answer what he feels, so well done for getting your 8s and 9s. I however, am not. Your facility may be clean, in a beautiful location, and well organized administratively, but you have some way to go in how to treat your patients and actually listen to them when they are telling you how they feel. Perhaps not leave bowls of vomit for hours next to a patient and let them lie in dirty bedding, until a family member requests you to change it the next day during visiting. Perhaps be a little gentler with assisting with dressing to not cause more pain. This is not a place where the elderly needs to feel like they are a burden and have their feelings minimised. They should be treated with dignity and respect. I do applaud the physio team and certain staff members for their kindness, thank you. And the access to your WiFi. Kind regards,
Faircape Healthcare centre is the place to be if you want to recover from any trauma you went thru, my stay with Faircape was very satisfying, the staff was friendly and helpful in anyway, and I loved the idea of the coffee shop where your visitors can come to you and at same time enjoy a good cup of coffee. I'm leaving with some great tools how to take life on with no stress and enjoy the moment, much thanks to all staff and the professional doctors etc.
Faircape Health in Tokai is a five star Step down facility. I was fortunate enough to have a bed with an amazing view of the mountains in the distance and a tree like an aviary at sunset every day. The five star rating extends to each and every role player in a patient's rehabilitation. The Carers are kind and happy to assist in any situation. The professional medical, physio and OT services are outstanding in the way they provide individual attention and therapy and after my ten day stay I am now confident that I can go home able to go up and down stairs, use crutches with confidence and follow a easy to remember exercise routine. All the kitchen staff including the Dietician went out of their way with a smile to accommodate my specific dietary needs
Excellent patient management in a caring compassionate manner by medical professionals. Doctors, Physio Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and well trained nursing staff in one centre. Clean, well equipped, professional and friendly environment in which to recover. Comfortable air conditioned patient accommodation rooms and very well equipped facilities. Staff are well mannered and always willing to assist as effectively as possible. Food menu, a good variety, and a healthy nutritious diet. Out patient facilities and condition specific support groups available with applicable information brochures on how to manage one's condition once discharged. I was made to feel welcome and felt at ease from the point of check-in to the end of my stay. I highly recommend Faircape Health to anyone requiring rehabilitation after major or normal surgery or any adverse health condition.
I would like to sincerely thank everyone at Faircape Rehabilitation Centre for the wonderful care and support you gave my mother, Semantha Benjamin, during her recovery after suffering a stroke. From the first day she arrived, your team treated her with such kindness, patience, and respect, and that truly meant so much to us as a family. It wasn’t an easy journey, but with your encouragement and professional care, she made great progress and gained the strength and confidence to move forward. The compassion you showed not only helped my mom but also gave us peace of mind knowing she was in good hands. On behalf of my family, I am truly grateful for everything you did for my mother during her stay. Thank you for your dedication and for making a very difficult time easier for us. Sincerely, Leyton Mark Ockhuis
A very positive experience from start to finish. Great staff and lovely professional people in all areas. Great milkshakes from the cafe!!
Dear Team at Heritage Manor, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for the outstanding care and support shown to my husband, Keith Pettersen. Keith suffered a stroke on 24 December 2025 and, after being in casualty and hospital, was transferred to Heritage Manor in Somerset West on 30 December 2025. He remained there until 23 January 2026, where he received physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. During his stay, Keith received nothing but the very best treatment. From the doctors and physiotherapists to the nursing staff and everyone else involved in his care, we were always made to feel welcome, supported, and genuinely cared for. Thanks to your dedication, encouragement, and compassion, Keith has made remarkable progress—especially with his walking. Seeing him regain mobility, even with the assistance of a walker, has meant the world to us. Your positive attitude and constant support played a huge role in keeping him motivated and hopeful throughout his recovery. We are deeply grateful for the love, kindness, and professionalism shown to us during this challenging time. You have all made an incredible contribution to Keith’s recovery, and we will always be thankful. With sincere appreciation, Vanessa Pettersen.
After a stroke my mom was admitted to Faircape Health and we are so impressed by the love, care and respect shown to her during her stay. I would recommend the facility to anyone needing to receive that extra bit of care in a loving, nurturing homely environment. The staff are friendly and efficient and treated everyone with dignity and the utmost respect.
Fabulous -is the only way I can describe the service I experienced at Faircape Health Tokai. What stood out was how joyful all the staff were. The attention to detail was a cut above the norm-from frequent doctor and nurse visits, physio therapists that take you to the point of surprising oneself with ones progress.... to the delicious food and great variety,,,,to the efficient staff responding within seconds to any necessity and finally the modern premises with the stunning garden, The decor of the facility also made me feel more like I was in a hotel than a step down facility. I highly recommend the team and the facility all of which aided me enormously to the get back on my feet again sooner than anticipated .
My son Ben (14 years old) stayed at Faircape Tokai rehab for 12 weeks from Jan 2024 til Apr 2024. The care given to him by all members of staff was outstanding. Not 1 person was unfriendly or unkind throughout the duration of his stay – everyone went out of their way to show him love, compassion, kindness and encouragement. If something popped up which needed to be dealt with, it was taken care of very speedily and always with a smile. From pressure mattresses to cushions for shower chairs to arranging for a special bell for him to use to call for help (he could only use his elbow to push it because his hands weren’t functional) to exploring various software options for him to be able to use a laptop / ipad by moving his eyes / head / mouth – everyone went out of their way to help - and always with love, encouragement and kindness. Ben benefitted hugely from his stay at Faircape Tokai – everything at the rehab facility helped him to have as speedy a recovery as possible. Having physios and OT right there who were just incredible in their care and dedication to Ben – just awesome! The equipment available in the various gyms to aid Ben’s recovery - remarkable! I don’t think he could have gone to a better facility. The following were just some of the other factors which made his stay so wonderful (and bearable - given he was away from home for 4 months in total including his time in hospital): - Connecting with other patients and making a firm friend for life. - Being able to take a walk (ride in the wheelchair) regularly on the boardwalk and feel the wind, sun, rain and irrigation on his skin, as well as see views of the mountain. - The visiting therapy dogs were wonderful for Ben to have to pet and chat to. - The holistic approach to ben’s health was remarkable – allowing him to go to school once a week for break time so that he could connect with friends and still experience outside ‘real’ life. - The wonderful doc looking after Ben in rehab making things interesting by performing a science experiment with him and giving him a bit of Afrikaans to contemplate. - The fact that our dog could come and visit Ben in his room regularly. - The kindness in allowing us as a family to visit Ben out of visiting hours – given his age and the circumstances around his condition. - Getting to know the resident cats – and growing very fond of Flower in particular. - Being able to get a haircut in his room – when Ben started looking very shaggy. - Being allowed home for a day visit each weekend – helped us to get through the long 12 week stay and not lose track of the end goal. An enormous thank you to everyone at Faircape Tokai. If anyone is considering using their services, we could not recommend them more highly.
Only had a week stay but am very impressed!!! Nursing staff are very quick to respond even without calling for assistance 🙏.... very happy with my physio and OT exercise programs,... after a brief chat they could work out a good workout routine for me and it really help me physically Very happy with the overall care and service!!!
Wonderful service beautiful ppl would recommend anyone and everyone to take this journey with fair cape health . You cannot go wrong
I came to Tokai Estate to rehabilitate after a total hip replacement. The whole experience has been exceptional. I would certainly recommend it for any such situation. The care was outstanding, and the physio was very helpful. I was sent home with a booklet of exercises which was very comprehensive.
We want to express our heartfelt appreciation for the care and support, that the entire team have provided. Your commitment to my husband, Peter Trowell, was truly admirable and made all the difference at a time, when we needed it most. From day one, we felt so comfortable with Peter’s admission and treatment programme and to be allowed to visit him daily, with our little dog, Ellie. A very special thank you goes out to Gadija. Her genuine concern, support and dedication to Peter’s care, has been nothing short of outstanding. Peter Trowell completed his last physiotherapy session, yesterday. We both going to miss the Faircape team and more especially Gadija. Many thank you’s and continue to keep up this amazing service. Best wishes, from Peter, Mels and Ellie.
Its was the best decision I made to use Faircape as a step down facility after my operation. Recovery was a struggle but with the excellent staff and especially the physio Brit made it possible for me to come home using only one crutch. I would strongly recommend then if you are considering doing hip replacement.
I could not have have asked for better treatment and care from all the caters at Fair Cape. Andy I will most definitely miss you. God bless 🙌
Absolutely amazing ultra modern facility with a specialized team having assessed me and putting me on an individualized and Personalised Rehab programme taking me on a road to recovery for Two weeks. During THIS time with their morale boosting support regarding my physical injury as well as medical and therapy sessions from OT, physio and psychologist made it so much easier to improve and getting stronger DAILY. Added to this the tranquility and serenity of the location enhances recovery and boosted myself emotionally and psychologically. The added TLC and pampering is highly appreciated. I am eternally thankful and grateful for this and can only but highly recommend this as rehab facility . Once again thank you very much to the ENTIRE team who took care of me. Dr Domingo for her prompt visit.Let's hope for another positive stay whatever the outcome. Absolutely the correct place to transittion for hospital.
I can highly recommend Faircape Health from the moment our father arrived up to his discharge a week later he was cared for so well and his strength and health improved thanks to all the care and treatment received like physio etc
I am so grateful to have been admitted to this wonderful Faircape facility two days after a knee replacement. From the moment I arrived, somewhat shaken and exhausted by my hospital experience, I was treated with the greatest of kindness and professional care from my resident physio, Damian. He assessed me and encouraged me so much that I was able to walk out unaided after my five day stay. The medical, admin and household staff were also excellent, but the greatest thanks of all goes to the flock of “angels in blue”. These kind, patient and ever present ladies were available night and day to attend to the many needs of all patients. The level of care everywhere was of the highest standard. I can’t thank them all enough!
I never thought that I would have been admitted into a rehab center after having surgery on my back. But oh boy, I was so happy that I was sent to Faircape. The physiotherapists OT's were amazing. I did not realize that my self confidence was sucker-punched and that I needed the help and support to guide me back. The carers were absolutely awesome, especially Shanaaz. She really boosted my self-confidence in the manner that she assisted me. I am grateful to each and every person who helped me from the moment I was transferred from the hospital to the rehab center, from my admission to my discharge. You guys rock!! Thank you for taking such great care of me. I am forever grateful 🙏.

1. What is the difference between sub-acute rehabilitation and long-term care?
Sub-acute rehabilitation focuses on short- to medium-term recovery after illness, injury, surgery, or a hospital stay, with the goal of improving mobility, strength, independence, and overall function.

2. What locations does Faircape Health Institute operate in?
Faircape Health Institute operates across multiple healthcare and retirement facilities in the Western Cape, including locations in Tokai, Claremont, Noordhoek, Kirstenhof, Onrus and Somerset West. Yes. We work with most medical aids; however, coverage depends on your individual plan and available benefits. Please note that we do not accept Sizwe Hosmed, Cape Medical Plan, PESMAS, or Opmed.
5. How do I arrange admission for myself or a loved one?
Your referring doctor can send us a referral letter. We will then apply for authorisation from your medical aid. Once authorisation is approved, our assessment nurse will contact you in the hospital or communicate directly with your referring doctor to arrange the transfer.
6. What is the waiting period for admissions?
The waiting period varies as it depends on your medical aid and the type of authorisation required. For some medical aids, we can obtain same-day approval, while others may take 3–5 working days. We do, however, escalate and follow up promptly to expedite the process where possible.
7. Do you offer outpatient options or must I book into a room?
Yes, we offer outpatient services through our Allied Health team — including Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Speech Therapy, and Psychology.
8. Do you cater to a vegan or vegetarian diet?
Yes, we are able to accommodate dietary preferences such as vegan or vegetarian diets.
9. Do I need to pay extra for any food and drinks outside of the three meals per day, or are they included?
Our food services include three nutritious meals per day, prepared by a qualified chef. Tea and coffee are served at selected times throughout the day, with ad hoc tea or coffee requests available outside of meals times too. Should patients wish to purchase additional snacks or beverages, our on-site restaurant offers a variety of options for patients and visitors.
10. What are your visiting hours?
Visiting hours are 11:00–19:00 daily.
Please note that therapy sessions continue during these hours, and we kindly request that families wait in the coffee shop if therapy is in progress to ensure sessions are not interrupted.
